Welcome back to the second part of our Compaq Portable restoration journey! 🛠️ In our last post, we talked about the initial assessment of the vintage computer and the steps we took to clean it up. Today, we will delve into the restoration process and share the exciting progress we have made so far. 💻
After cleaning the exterior of the Compaq Portable, we turned our attention to the inside of the computer. We carefully removed the motherboard and other components to inspect for any signs of damage or corrosion. Luckily, everything looked to be in good condition, so we proceeded with cleaning and reseating the components. 🔧
Next, we focused on the display screen, which had some minor scratches and discoloration. We gently buffed out the scratches and applied a special solution to restore the color and brightness of the screen. The result was truly satisfying, as the display now looks almost brand new! 🖥️
One of the most challenging parts of the restoration process was sourcing replacement parts for the Compaq Portable. We scoured online marketplaces and vintage computer forums to find original components that would match the specifications of the computer. After weeks of searching, we finally found a compatible floppy disk drive and power supply unit. 🕵️♂️
With the new components in hand, we carefully installed them into the Compaq Portable and powered it on for the first time. To our delight, the computer booted up without any issues, and we were greeted with the familiar MS-DOS prompt. It was a moment of triumph for our restoration project! 🎉
In the coming weeks, we plan to continue fine-tuning the Compaq Portable and adding some finishing touches to bring it back to its former glory. Stay tuned for the final part of our restoration journey, where we will showcase the fully restored computer in all its vintage beauty. 🌟
